Lights. Camera. Burn.

In Personal

On another episode of man and camera, we have a look at the annual bonfire and firework display was held at the Forest Recreation Ground, Nottingham. It is a time set aside to mark the 410th anniversary of Guy Fawkes’ foiled Gunpowder Plot. Although the tradition has been installed in British history for the past four centuries, thousands of families still gathered to watch fizzes, sparkles and pops explode in Nottingham’s night sky.

It was a night filled with fairground rides, a blazing bonfire and glittering fireworks. Despite forecasters predicting a washout, due to the rain, the locals dusted off their hats, gloves and scarves to wrap up warm and descended to the site for an evening of family-friendly fun.

While taking pictures in the rain, braving the cold  like a G, just before the bonfire was lit, I remember the chorus of Aunty Adele’s song:

But I set fire to the rain,
Watched it pour as I touched your face,
Well, it burned while I cried
